Homemade French Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups warm water (110-115F)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 4 1/2- 5 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tbsp instant dry yeast
- 1 Egg, beaten
- 2 tbsp Melted butter, optional
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, add yeast, water, salt, and 4 cups of flour. Knead on a slow speed until the flour has started to combine. Increase speed to medium and gradually add in the remaining flour until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- Transfer to a lightly greased mixing bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise until double in size, about 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Use a sharp knife to cut diagonal slashes on the top of each bread loaf. Brush loaves with egg wash.
- Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and brush with the melted butter. Enjoy!
